1 STAND firm therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and be not harnessed again under the yoke of servitude. For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2 Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you be circumcised, then Christ is of no benefit to you. Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3 For I testify again to every man who is circumcised, that he is under obligation to fulfill the whole law. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4 You have ceased to adhere to Christ, who seek justification by the law; you are fallen from grace. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.
6 For in Christ Jesus, neither is circumcision anything nor uncircumcision; but faith which is accomplished by love. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
7 You were progressing well; who confused you that you should not obey the truth? You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
8 Your persuasion comes from him who called you. This persuasion is not from him who calls you. That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”
10 I have confidence in you through our LORD, that you will consider no other beliefs: that he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he is. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.
11 And I, my brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why should I be persecuted? Why? Has the cross ceased to be a stumblingblock? But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
12 I wish those who are troubling you would be expelled. I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
13 For, my brethren, you have been called unto liberty; only do not use your liberty for an occasion to the things of the flesh, but by love serve one another. For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one saying, that is; Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 But if you harm and plunder one another, take heed lest you be consumed one by another. But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 This I say then: Lead a spiritual life, and you shall never commit the lust of the flesh. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 For the flesh craves that which is harmful to the Spirit, and the Spirit opposes the things of the flesh: and the two are contrary to one another, so that you are unable to do whatever you please. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 For the works of the flesh are well-known, which are these: adultery, impurity, and lasciviousness, Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, stubbornness, seditions, heresies, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and all like things: those who practice these things, as I have told you before and I say to you now, they shall not inherit the kingdom of God. envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 Meekness, self-control: there is no law against these. gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 And those who belong to Christ have controlled their weaknesses and passions. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 Let us therefore live in the Spirit, and surrender to the Spirit. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
