1 For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery. For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2 Take note! I, Paul, am telling you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all. Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3 Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to do the entire law. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4 You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5 For we eagerly await through the Spirit, by faith, the hope of righteousness. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
7 You were running well. Who prevented you from being persuaded regarding the truth? You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
8 This persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. This persuasion is not from him who calls you. That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
9 A little leaven leavens the whole batch of dough. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”
10 I myself am persuaded in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.
11 Now brothers and sisters, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
12 I wish those who are disturbing you might also let themselves be mutilated! I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
13 For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another. But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 I say, then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
