1 Stande fast therfore in the libertie wherwith Christe hath made vs free, and be not intangled agayne with ye yoke of bondage. For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2 Beholde I Paul saye vnto you, that yf ye be , circumcised Christe shall profite you nothyng. Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3 For I testifie agayne to euery man which is circumcised, that he is a detter to do the whole lawe. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4 Christe is become but vayne to you, as many of you as are iustified by the lawe, are fallen from grace. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5 For we through the spirite, wayte for the hope of ryghteousnes by fayth. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.
6 For in Iesus Christe, neither is circumcision any thing woorth, neither yet vncircumcision: but fayth, which worketh by loue. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
7 Ye dyd runne well, who was a let vnto you, that ye should not obey ye trueth? You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
8 Not the perfection of hym that called you. This persuasion is not from him who calls you. That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
9 A litle leauen, doth leauen the whole lumpe of dowe. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”
10 I haue truste towarde you in the Lorde, that ye wyll be none otherwyse mynded: But he that troubleth you, shall beare iudgement, whatsoeuer he be. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.
11 And brethren, if I yet preache circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? Then is the slaunder of the crosse ceassed. But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
12 I woulde to God they were cut of which trouble you. I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
13 For brethren, ye haue ben called into libertie: Only let not libertie be an occasio to the flesshe, but by loue serue one another. For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
14 For all the lawe is fulfylled in one worde, which is this: Thou shalt loue thy neyghbour as thy selfe. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 Yf ye byte and deuoure one another, take heede lest ye be consumed one of another. But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 Then I say, walke in the spirite, and ye shall not fulfyll the lust of the flesshe. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 For the flesshe lusteth contrary to the spirite, and the spirite contrary to the flesshe. These are contrary one to the other, so that ye can not do what ye woulde. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
18 But and yf ye be ledde of the spirite, then are ye not vnder the lawe. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The deedes of the flesshe are manifest, which are these, adulterie, fornication, vncleannesse, wantonnesse, Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20 Worshippyng of images, witchcrafte, hatred, variaunce, zeale, wrath, strife, seditions, sectes, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21 Enuyinges, murthers, drunkennesse, gluttonies, and such lyke: of the whiche I tell you before, as I haue tolde you in tyme past, that they which do suche thinges, shall not inherite the kingdome of God. envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruite of the spirite is, loue, ioye, peace, long sufferyng, gentlenesse, goodnesse, fayth, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 Mekenesse, temperauncie: agaynst such there is no lawe. gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 They truely that are Christes, haue crucified the flesshe, with the affections and lustes. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 Yf we lyue in ye spirite, let vs walke in the spirite. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
26 Let vs not be desirous of vayne glorie, prouoking one another, enuying one another. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
