1 And these are the heads of their fathers and the genealogy of those going up with me, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king, from Babylon: These are the heads of their fathers’ houses, and this is the genealogy of those who went up with me from Babylonia, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king: These are the family heads and those registered with them who came up with me from Babylon during the reign of King Artaxerxes:

3 of the sons of Shechaniah; of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah, and with him were registered a hundred and fifty males; Of the sons of Shecaniah, who was of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah, with whom were registered 150 men. of the descendants of Shekaniah; of the descendants of Parosh, Zechariah, and with him were registered 150 men;

13 and of the later sons of Adonikam—and these are their names—Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them sixty males; Of the sons of Adonikam, those who came later, their names being Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah, and with them 60 men. of the descendants of Adonikam, the last ones, whose names were Eliphelet, Jeuel and Shemaiah, and with them 60 men;
14 and of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zaccur, and with them seventy males; Of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zaccur, and with them 70 men. of the descendants of Bigvai, Uthai and Zakkur, and with them 70 men.
15 and I gathered them to the river that flows to Ahava, and we camped there three days. And I considered about the people and the priests, and from the sons of Levi I found none there. I gathered them to the river that runs to Ahava, and there we camped three days. As I reviewed the people and the priests, I found there none of the sons of Levi. I assembled them at the canal that flows toward Ahava, and we camped there three days. When I checked among the people and the priests, I found no Levites there.
16 And I sent for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam—leaders—and for Joiarib and Elnathan—men of understanding. Then I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, leading men, and for Joiarib and Elnathan, who were men of insight, So I summoned Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah and Meshullam, who were leaders, and Joiarib and Elnathan, who were men of learning,
17 And I sent them to Iddo the leader in the place at Casiphia, and I told them what they should say to Iddo and his brothers the Nethinim at Casiphia the place, that they should bring to us those ministering for the house of our God. and sent them to Iddo, the leading man at the place Casiphia, telling them what to say to Iddo and his brothers and the temple servants at the place Casiphia, namely, to send us ministers for the house of our God. and I ordered them to go to Iddo, the leader in Kasiphia. I told them what to say to Iddo and his fellow Levites, the temple servants in Kasiphia, so that they might bring attendants to us for the house of our God.
18 And they brought to us by the good hand of our God upon us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, son of Levi, son of Israel, Sherebiah, and his sons and his brothers, eighteen; And by the good hand of our God on us, they brought us a man of discretion, of the sons of Mahli the son of Levi, son of Israel, namely Sherebiah with his sons and kinsmen, 18; Because the gracious hand of our God was on us, they brought us Sherebiah, a capable man, from the descendants of Mahli son of Levi, the son of Israel, and Sherebiah’s sons and brothers, 18 in all;
19 and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers, and their sons, twenty; also Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, with his kinsmen and their sons, 20; and Hashabiah, together with Jeshaiah from the descendants of Merari, and his brothers and nephews, 20 in all.
20 and also of the Nethinim, whom David and the leaders had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim. All of them were designated by name. besides 220 of the temple servants, whom David and his officials had set apart to attend the Levites. These were all mentioned by name. They also brought 220 of the temple servants—a body that David and the officials had established to assist the Levites. All were registered by name.
21 And I proclaimed there a fast at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before the face of our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and for our little ones and for all our possessions. Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods. 22 For I was ashamed to ask of the king a force and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those who seek Him for good, and His strength and His wrath are against all forsaking Him.” For I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, “The hand of our God is for good on all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.” I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.”
23 And we fasted and sought from our God for this, and He was entreated of us. So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty. So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
24 And I separated twelve of the leaders of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and with them ten of their brothers. Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests: Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their kinsmen with them. Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests, namely, Sherebiah, Hashabiah and ten of their brothers,
25 And I weighed out to them the silver and the gold and the articles, the contribution of the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his princes, and all Israel—those present—had offered. And I weighed out to them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God that the king and his counselors and his lords and all Israel there present had offered. and I weighed out to them the offering of silver and gold and the articles that the king, his advisers, his officials and all Israel present there had donated for the house of our God.
26 And I weighed into their hands, six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and a hundred talents of articles of silver a hundred talents of gold, I weighed out into their hand 650 talents of silver, and silver vessels worth 200 talents, and 100 talents of gold, I weighed out to them 650 talents of silver, silver articles weighing 100 talents, 100 talents of gold,
27 and twenty gold bowls of a thousand drachmas, and two vessels of fine polished bronze as precious as gold. 20 bowls of gold worth 1,000 darics, and two vessels of fine bright bronze as precious as gold. 20 bowls of gold valued at 1,000 darics, and two fine articles of polished bronze, as precious as gold.
28 And I said to them, “You⁺ are holy to YHWH, and the articles are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to YHWH, God of your⁺ fathers. And I said to them, “You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers. I said to them, “You as well as these articles are consecrated to the LORD. The silver and gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your ancestors.
29 Watch and keep them until you⁺ weigh them before the face of the leaders of the priests, and the Levites, and the heads of the fathers of Israel, in Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of YHWH.” Guard them and keep them until you weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites and the heads of fathers’ houses in Israel at Jerusalem, within the chambers of the house of the LORD.” Guard them carefully until you weigh them out in the chambers of the house of the LORD in Jerusalem before the leading priests and the Levites and the family heads of Israel.”
30 And the priests and the Levites received by weight the silver and the gold and the articles, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God. So the priests and the Levites took over the weight of the silver and the gold and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our God. Then the priests and Levites received the silver and gold and sacred articles that had been weighed out to be taken to the house of our God in Jerusalem.
31 And we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth of the first month to go to Jerusalem, and the hand of our God was upon us, and He snatched us up from the hand of the enemy and the lier in wait along the road. Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambushes by the way. On the twelfth day of the first month we set out from the Ahava Canal to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us, and he protected us from enemies and bandits along the way.
32 And we came to Jerusalem and stayed there three days. We came to Jerusalem, and there we remained three days. So we arrived in Jerusalem, where we rested three days.
33 And on the fourth day it was weighed out—the silver and the gold and the articles in the house of our God—by the hand of Meremoth son of Uriah the priest, and with him Eleazar son of Phinehas, and with them Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui, the Levites, On the fourth day, within the house of our God, the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed into the hands of Meremoth the priest, son of Uriah, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas, and with them were the Levites, Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of Binnui. On the fourth day, in the house of our God, we weighed out the silver and gold and the sacred articles into the hands of Meremoth son of Uriah, the priest. Eleazar son of Phinehas was with him, and so were the Levites Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui.
34 by number, by weight of everything, and all the weight was recorded at that time. The whole was counted and weighed, and the weight of everything was recorded. Everything was accounted for by number and weight, and the entire weight was recorded at that time.
35 Those coming in of the captives—the sons of the exile—offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel: Twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve male goats as a sin offering—all a burnt offering to YHWH. At that time those who had come from captivity, the returned exiles, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and as a sin offering twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the LORD. Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel: twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven male lambs and, as a sin offering, twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the LORD.
36 And they delivered the laws of the king to the satraps of the king and the governors beyond the River, and they lifted up the people and the house of God. They also delivered the king’s commissions to the king’s satraps and to the governors of the province Beyond the River, and they aided the people and the house of God. They also delivered the king’s orders to the royal satraps and to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, who then gave assistance to the people and to the house of God.
