1 As I watched, I saw on the platform above the top of the cherubim something like a sapphire, resembling the shape of a throne, appearing above them. Then I looked, and behold, on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something like a sapphire, in appearance like a throne. I looked, and I saw the likeness of a throne of lapis lazuli above the vault that was over the heads of the cherubim.
2 The LORD said to the man dressed in linen, |Go between the wheelwork underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city.| He went as I watched. And he said to the man clothed in linen, “Go in among the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city.” And he went in before my eyes. The LORD said to the man clothed in linen, “Go in among the wheels beneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city.” And as I watched, he went in.
3 (The cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.) Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the house, when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court. 5 The sound of the wings of the cherubim could be heard from the outer court, like the sound of the sovereign God when he speaks. And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks. 6 When the LORD commanded the man dressed in linen, |Take fire from within the wheelwork, from among the cherubim,| the man went in and stood by one of the wheels. 7 Then one of the cherubim stretched out his hand toward the fire which was among the cherubim. He took some and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and left. And a cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took some of it and put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who took it and went out. Then one of the cherubim reached out his hand to the fire that was among them. He took up some of it and put it into the hands of the man in linen, who took it and went out.
8 (The cherubim appeared to have the form of human hands under their wings.) The cherubim appeared to have the form of a human hand under their wings. (Under the wings of the cherubim could be seen what looked like human hands.)
9 As I watched, I noticed four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub; the wheels gleamed like jasper. And I looked, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub, and the appearance of the wheels was like sparkling beryl. I looked, and I saw beside the cherubim four wheels, one beside each of the cherubim; the wheels sparkled like topaz.
10 As for their appearance, all four of them looked the same, something like a wheel within a wheel. And as for their appearance, the four had the same likeness, as if a wheel were within a wheel. As for their appearance, the four of them looked alike; each was like a wheel intersecting a wheel.
11 When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions they faced without turning as they moved; in the direction the head would turn they would follow without turning as they moved, When they went, they went in any of their four directions without turning as they went, but in whatever direction the front wheel faced, the others followed without turning as they went. As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the cherubim faced; the wheels did not turn about as the cherubim went. The cherubim went in whatever direction the head faced, without turning as they went.
12 along with their entire bodies, their backs, their hands, and their wings. The wheels of the four of them were full of eyes all around. And their whole body, their rims, and their spokes, their wings, and the wheels were full of eyes all around—the wheels that the four of them had. Their entire bodies, including their backs, their hands and their wings, were completely full of eyes, as were their four wheels.
13 As for their wheels, they were called |the wheelwork| as I listened. As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing “the whirling wheels.” I heard the wheels being called “the whirling wheels.”
14 Each of the cherubim had four faces: The first was the face of a cherub, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the fourth that of an eagle. And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of the cherub, and the second face was a human face, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. Each of the cherubim had four faces: One face was that of a cherub, the second the face of a human being, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
15 The cherubim rose up; these were the living beings I saw at the Kebar River. And the cherubim mounted up. These were the living creatures that I saw by the Chebar canal. Then the cherubim rose upward. These were the living creatures I had seen by the Kebar River.
16 When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them; when the cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not move from their side. And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them. And when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels did not turn from beside them. When the cherubim moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not leave their side.
17 When the cherubim stood still, the wheels stood still, and when they rose up, the wheels rose up with them, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels. When they stood still, these stood still, and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in them. When the cherubim stood still, they also stood still; and when the cherubim rose, they rose with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in them.
18 Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim. Then the glory of the LORD went out from the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. Then the glory of the LORD departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.
19 The cherubim spread their wings, and they rose up from the earth while I watched (when they went the wheels went alongside them). They stopped at the entrance to the east gate of the LORD's temple as the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them. And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth before my eyes as they went out, with the wheels beside them. And they stood at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them. While I watched, the cherubim spread their wings and rose from the ground, and as they went, the wheels went with them. They stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the LORD’s house, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.
20 These were the living creatures which I saw at the Kebar River underneath the God of Israel; I knew that they were cherubim. These were the living creatures that I saw underneath the God of Israel by the Chebar canal; and I knew that they were cherubim. These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the Kebar River, and I realized that they were cherubim.
21 Each had four faces; each had four wings and the form of human hands under the wings. Each had four faces, and each four wings, and underneath their wings the likeness of human hands. Each had four faces and four wings, and under their wings was what looked like human hands.
22 As for the form of their faces, they were the faces whose appearance I had seen at the Kebar River. Each one moved straight ahead. And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the same faces whose appearance I had seen by the Chebar canal. Each one of them went straight forward. Their faces had the same appearance as those I had seen by the Kebar River. Each one went straight ahead.
