1 About that time King Herod violently attacked some who belonged to the church, About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church. It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them.
2 and he executed James, John’s brother, with the sword. He killed James the brother of John with the sword, He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.
3 When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter too, during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.
4 After the arrest, he put him in prison and assigned four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.

8 “Get dressed,” the angel told him, “and put on your sandals.” And he did. “Wrap your cloak around you,” he told him, “and follow me.” And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him.
9 So he went out and followed, and he did not know that what the angel did was really happening, but he thought he was seeing a vision. And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision.
10 After they passed the first and second guards, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. 12 As soon as he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was called Mark, where many had assembled and were praying. When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”
15 “You’re out of your mind! ” they told her. But she kept insisting that it was true, and they said, “It’s his angel.” They said to her, “You are out of your mind.” But she kept insisting that it was so, and they kept saying, “It is his angel!” “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”
16 Peter, however, kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were amazed. But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened, they saw him and were amazed. But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.
17 Motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. “Tell these things to James and the brothers,” he said, and he left and went to another place. 19 After Herod had searched and did not find him, he interrogated the guards and ordered their execution. Then Herod went down from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there. And after Herod searched for him and did not find him, he examined the sentries and ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent time there. After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there.
20 Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. Together they presented themselves before him. After winning over Blastus, who was in charge of the king’s bedroom, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food from the king’s country. Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they came to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king’s country for food. He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply.
21 On an appointed day, dressed in royal robes and seated on the throne, Herod delivered a speech to them. On an appointed day Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat upon the throne, and delivered an oration to them. On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people.
22 The assembled people began to shout, “It’s the voice of a god and not of a man! ” And the people were shouting, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!” They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.”
23 At once an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died. Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last. Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
24 But the word of God spread and multiplied. But the word of God increased and multiplied. But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.
25 After they had completed their relief mission, Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem, taking along John who was called Mark. And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark. When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark.
