7 Ἀγαπητοί οὐκ ἐντολὴν καινὴν γράφω ὑμῖν ἀλλ’ ἐντολὴν παλαιὰν ἣν εἴχετε ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς ἐντολὴ παλαιά ἐστιν λόγος ὃν ἠκούσατε Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.
8 πάλιν ἐντολὴν καινὴν γράφω ὑμῖν ἐστιν ἀληθὲς ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν ὅτι σκοτία παράγεται καὶ τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινὸν ἤδη φαίνει At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.
