1 And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader. David consulted with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with every leader. David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds.
2 And David said unto, all the assembly of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and if it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad every where unto our brethren that are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us: And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and from the LORD our God, let us send abroad to our brothers who remain in all the lands of Israel, as well as to the priests and Levites in the cities that have pasturelands, that they may be gathered to us. He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us.
3 and let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we sought not unto it in the days of Saul. Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.” Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.”
4 And all the assembly said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. All the assembly agreed to do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people.
5 So David assembled all Israel together, from Shihor the brook of Egypt even unto the entering in of Hamath; to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. So David assembled all Israel from the Nile of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim.
6 And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, the LORD that sitteth upon the cherubim, which is called by the Name. And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim that belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the LORD who sits enthroned above the cherubim. David and all Israel went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.
7 And they carried the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart. And they carried the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of Abinadab, and Uzzah and Ahio were driving the cart. They moved the ark of God from Abinadab’s house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it.
8 And David and all Israel played before God with all their might: even with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets. And David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, with song and lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets. David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets.
9 And when they came unto the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled. And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah put out his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen stumbled. When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled.
10 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put forth his hand to the ark: and there he died before God. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark, and he died there before God. The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.
11 And David was displeased, because the LORD had broken forth upon Uzza: and he called that place Perez-uzza, unto this day. And David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzza to this day. Then David was angry because the LORD’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.
12 And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me? And David was afraid of God that day, and he said, “How can I bring the ark of God home to me?” David was afraid of God that day and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?”
13 So David removed not the ark unto him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. So David did not take the ark home into the city of David, but took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
14 And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months: and the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had. And the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that he had. The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.
