Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit and a heavy chain in his hand.1Then I saw an angel descending from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the abyss and a huge chain.
He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years.2He seized the dragon--the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan--and tied him up for a thousand years.
The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.3The angel then threw him into the abyss and locked and sealed it so that he could not deceive the nations until the one thousand years were finished. (After these things he must be released for a brief period of time.)
Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.4Then I saw thrones and seated on them were those who had been given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. These had not worshiped the beast or his image and had refused to receive his mark on their forehead or hand. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.)5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were finished.) This is the first resurrection.
Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years. The Defeat of Satan6Blessed and holy is the one who takes part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison.7Now when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released from his prison
He will go out to deceive the nations—called Gog and Magog—in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle—a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seashore.8and will go out to deceive the nations at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to bring them together for the battle. They are as numerous as the grains of sand in the sea.
And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God’s people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them.9They went up on the broad plain of the earth and encircled the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and devoured them completely.
Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. The Final Judgment10And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are too, and they will be tormented there day and night forever and ever.
And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide.11Then I saw a large white throne and the one who was seated on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.
I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.12And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then books were opened, and another book was opened--the book of life. So the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds.
The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds.13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds.
Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death--the lake of fire.
And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.
