Psalm 10
NLT Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
O LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?1Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?
The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others.2In pride the wicked hotly pursue the afflicted; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the LORD.3For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, And the greedy man curses and spurns the LORD.
The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.4The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him. All his thoughts are, "There is no God."
Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies.5His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his adversaries, he snorts at them.
They think, “Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!”6He says to himself, "I will not be moved; Throughout all generations I will not be in adversity."
Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.7His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness.
They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people. They are always searching for helpless victims.8He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the hiding places he kills the innocent; His eyes stealthily watch for the unfortunate.
Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets.9He lurks in a hiding place as a lion in his lair; He lurks to catch the afflicted; He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net.
Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.10He crouches, he bows down, And the unfortunate fall by his mighty ones.
The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”11He says to himself, "God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it."
Arise, O LORD! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!12Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.
Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.”13Why has the wicked spurned God? He has said to himself, "You will not require it."
But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.14You have seen it, for You have beheld mischief and vexation to take it into Your hand. The unfortunate commits himself to You; You have been the helper of the orphan.
Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed.15Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer, Seek out his wickedness until You find none.
The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.16The LORD is King forever and ever; Nations have perished from His land.
LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.17O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear
You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.18To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror.
