New Living Translation | King James Bible |
From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me. Let all Israel repeat this: | 1A Song of degrees. Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say: |
From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me. | 2Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me. |
My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows. | 3The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows. |
But the LORD is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly. | 4The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. |
May all who hate Jerusalem be turned back in shameful defeat. | 5Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion. |
May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown, | 6Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up: |
ignored by the harvester, despised by the binder. | 7Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom. |
And may those who pass by refuse to give them this blessing: “The LORD bless you; we bless you in the LORD’s name.” | 8Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD. |
