New Living Translation | Christian Standard Bible |
I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. | 1In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. |
Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. | 2"LORD, rescue me from lying lips and a deceitful tongue." |
O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? | 3What will he give you, and what will he do to you, you deceitful tongue? |
You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. | 4A warrior's sharp arrows with burning charcoal! |
How I suffer in far-off Meshech. It pains me to live in distant Kedar. | 5What misery that I have stayed in Meshech, that I have lived among the tents of Kedar! |
I am tired of living among people who hate peace. | 6I have dwelt too long with those who hate peace. |
I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war! | 7I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war. |
