New King James VersionNew Living Translation
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:1The LORD said to Moses,
“Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually.2“Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.
Outside the veil of the Testimony, in the tabernacle of meeting, Aaron shall be in charge of it from evening until morning before the LORD continually; it shall be a statute forever in your generations.3This is the lampstand that stands in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron must keep the lamps burning in the LORD’s presence all night. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation.
He shall be in charge of the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD continually.4Aaron and the priests must tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand continually in the LORD’s presence.
“And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it. Two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake.5“You must bake twelve flat loaves of bread from choice flour, using four quarts of flour for each loaf.
You shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD.6Place the bread before the LORD on the pure gold table, and arrange the loaves in two stacks, with six loaves in each stack.
And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, an offering made by fire to the LORD.7Put some pure frankincense near each stack to serve as a representative offering, a special gift presented to the LORD.
Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.8Every Sabbath day this bread must be laid out before the LORD as a gift from the Israelites; it is an ongoing expression of the eternal covenant.
And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the offerings of the LORD made by fire, by a perpetual statute.”9The loaves of bread will belong to Aaron and his descendants, who must eat them in a sacred place, for they are most holy. It is the permanent right of the priests to claim this portion of the special gifts presented to the LORD.” An Example of Just Punishment
Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and this Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel fought each other in the camp.10One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father came out of his tent and got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.
And the Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the name of the LORD and cursed; and so they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)11During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the Name of the LORD with a curse. So the man was brought to Moses for judgment. His mother was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.
Then they put him in custody, that the mind of the LORD might be shown to them.12They kept the man in custody until the LORD’s will in the matter should become clear to them.
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,13Then the LORD said to Moses,
“Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.14“Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death.
“Then you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin.15Say to the people of Israel: Those who curse their God will be punished for their sin.
And whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall be put to death.16Anyone who blasphemes the Name of the LORD must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any native-born Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the Name of the LORD must be put to death.
‘Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death.17“Anyone who takes another person’s life must be put to death.
Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal.18“Anyone who kills another person’s animal must pay for it in full—a live animal for the animal that was killed.
‘If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, so shall it be done to him—19“Anyone who injures another person must be dealt with according to the injury inflicted—
fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him.20a fracture for a fracture, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Whatever anyone does to injure another person must be paid back in kind.
And whoever kills an animal shall restore it; but whoever kills a man shall be put to death.21“Whoever kills an animal must pay for it in full, but whoever kills another person must be put to death.
You shall have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am the LORD your God.’ ”22“This same standard applies both to native-born Israelites and to the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.”
Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they took outside the camp him who had cursed, and stoned him with stones. So the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.23After Moses gave all these instructions to the Israelites, they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him to death. The Israelites did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
