To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.1For the music director; by David. Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right.
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.2The LORD looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.
They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.3Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the LORD?4All those who behave wickedly do not understand--those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the LORD.
There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous.5They are absolutely terrified, for God defends the godly.
You shame the counsel of the poor, But the LORD is his refuge.6You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the LORD is their shelter.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.7I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be happy!
