New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. | 1For the music director; by David. Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right. |
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God. |
They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. | 3Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one! |
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the LORD? | 4All those who behave wickedly do not understand--those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the LORD. |
There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. | 5They are absolutely terrified, for God defends the godly. |
You shame the counsel of the poor, But the LORD is his refuge. | 6You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the LORD is their shelter. |
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. | 7I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be happy! |
