NKJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly.1Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish,
And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.2and he said, "I called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice.
For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.3"For You had cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the current engulfed me. All Your breakers and billows passed over me.
Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’4"So I said, 'I have been expelled from Your sight. Nevertheless I will look again toward Your holy temple.'
The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.5"Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head.
I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God.6"I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.
“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.7"While I was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, And my prayer came to You, Into Your holy temple.
“Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.8"Those who regard vain idols Forsake their faithfulness,
But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.”9But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the LORD."
So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.10Then the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
