New International Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
For the director of music. Of David. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. | 1For the choir director. Davidic. The fool says in his heart, "God does not exist." They are corrupt; they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good. |
The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven on the human race to see if there is one who is wise, one who seeks God. |
All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. | 3All have turned away; all alike have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one. |
Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the LORD. | 4Will evildoers never understand? They consume My people as they consume bread; they do not call on the LORD. |
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. | 5Then they will be filled with terror, for God is with those who are righteous. |
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. | 6You sinners frustrate the plans of the afflicted, but the LORD is his refuge. |
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad! | 7Oh, that Israel's deliverance would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad. |
