New International Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
"Hear this, you priests! Pay attention, you Israelites! Listen, royal house! This judgment is against you: You have been a snare at Mizpah, a net spread out on Tabor. | 1Hear this, priests! Pay attention, house of Israel! Listen, royal house! For the judgment applies to you because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread out on Tabor. |
The rebels are knee-deep in slaughter. I will discipline all of them. | 2Rebels are deeply involved in slaughter; I will be a punishment for all of them. |
I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt. | 3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me. For now, Ephraim, you have acted promiscuously; Israel is defiled. |
"Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God. A spirit of prostitution is in their heart; they do not acknowledge the LORD. | 4Their actions do not allow them to return to their God, for a spirit of promiscuity is among them, and they do not know the LORD. |
Israel's arrogance testifies against them; the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble in their sin; Judah also stumbles with them. | 5Israel's arrogance testifies against them. Both Israel and Ephraim stumble because of their wickedness; even Judah will stumble with them. |
When they go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, they will not find him; he has withdrawn himself from them. | 6They go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD but do not find Him; He has withdrawn from them. |
They are unfaithful to the LORD; they give birth to illegitimate children. When they celebrate their New Moon feasts, he will devour their fields. | 7They betrayed the LORD; indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will devour them along with their fields. |
"Sound the trumpet in Gibeah, the horn in Ramah. Raise the battle cry in Beth Aven; lead on, Benjamin. | 8Blow the horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah; raise the war cry in Beth-aven: After you, Benjamin! |
Ephraim will be laid waste on the day of reckoning. Among the tribes of Israel I proclaim what is certain. | 9Ephraim will become a desolation on the day of punishment; I announce what is certain among the tribes of Israel. |
Judah's leaders are like those who move boundary stones. I will pour out my wrath on them like a flood of water. | 10The princes of Judah are like those who move boundary markers; I will pour out My fury on them like water. |
Ephraim is oppressed, trampled in judgment, intent on pursuing idols. | 11Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, for he is determined to follow what is worthless. |
I am like a moth to Ephraim, like rot to the people of Judah. | 12So I am like rot to Ephraim and like decay to the house of Judah. |
"When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and sent to the great king for help. But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores. | 13When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, Ephraim went to Assyria and sent a delegation to the great king. But he cannot cure you or heal your wound. |
For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a great lion to Judah. I will tear them to pieces and go away; I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them. | 14For I am like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the house of Judah. Yes, I will tear them to pieces and depart. I will carry them off, and no one can rescue them. |
Then I will return to my lair until they have borne their guilt and seek my face-- in their misery they will earnestly seek me." | 15I will depart and return to My place until they recognize their guilt and seek My face; they will search for Me in their distress. |
