Proverbs 11
NIV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionEnglish Standard Version
The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.1A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.2When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.
Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.4Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.5The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight, but the wicked falls by his own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the treacherous are taken captive by their lust.
Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.7When the wicked dies, his hope will perish, and the expectation of wealth perishes too.
The righteous person is rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.8The righteous is delivered from trouble, and the wicked walks into it instead.
With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.9With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.
When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.10When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish there are shouts of gladness.
Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.11By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.
Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.12Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.13Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.
For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.14Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.15Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure.
A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.16A gracious woman gets honor, and violent men get riches.
Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.17A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.
A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.18The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward.
Truly the righteous attain life, but whoever pursues evil finds death.19Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die.
The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.20Those of crooked heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those of blameless ways are his delight.
Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.21Be assured, an evil person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered.
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.22Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.23The desire of the righteous ends only in good, the expectation of the wicked in wrath.
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.24One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.25Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.
People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God's blessing on the one who is willing to sell.26The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it.
Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.27Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it.
Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.28Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.
Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.29Whoever troubles his own household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise.
If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!31If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!
