Psalm 140
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
For the music director; a psalm of David. O LORD, rescue me from wicked men! Protect me from violent men, 1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent,
who plan ways to harm me. All day long they stir up conflict. 2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long.
Their tongues wound like a serpent; a viper's venom is behind their lips. (Selah) 3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude
O LORD, shelter me from the power of the wicked! Protect me from violent men, who plan to knock me over. 4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me.
Proud men hide a snare for me; evil men spread a net by the path; they set traps for me. (Selah) 5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude
I say to the LORD, "You are my God." O LORD, pay attention to my plea for mercy! 6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!
O sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle. 7O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle.
O LORD, do not let the wicked have their way! Do not allow their plan to succeed when they attack! (Selah) 8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude
As for the heads of those who surround me--may the harm done by their lips overwhelm them! 9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.
May he rain down fiery coals upon them! May he throw them into the fire! From bottomless pits they will not escape. 10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape.
A slanderer will not endure on the earth; calamity will hunt down a violent man and strike him down. 11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent.
I know that the LORD defends the cause of the oppressed and vindicates the poor. 12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor.
Certainly the godly will give thanks to your name; the morally upright will live in your presence. 13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence.
