NET BibleNew International Version
For the music director; a psalm of David. O LORD, rescue me from wicked men! Protect me from violent men, 1For the director of music. A psalm of David. Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers; protect me from the violent,
who plan ways to harm me. All day long they stir up conflict. 2who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
Their tongues wound like a serpent; a viper's venom is behind their lips. (Selah) 3They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips.
O LORD, shelter me from the power of the wicked! Protect me from violent men, who plan to knock me over. 4Keep me safe, LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.
Proud men hide a snare for me; evil men spread a net by the path; they set traps for me. (Selah) 5The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.
I say to the LORD, "You are my God." O LORD, pay attention to my plea for mercy! 6I say to the LORD, "You are my God." Hear, LORD, my cry for mercy.
O sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle. 7Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.
O LORD, do not let the wicked have their way! Do not allow their plan to succeed when they attack! (Selah) 8Do not grant the wicked their desires, LORD; do not let their plans succeed.
As for the heads of those who surround me--may the harm done by their lips overwhelm them! 9Those who surround me proudly rear their heads; may the mischief of their lips engulf them.
May he rain down fiery coals upon them! May he throw them into the fire! From bottomless pits they will not escape. 10May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.
A slanderer will not endure on the earth; calamity will hunt down a violent man and strike him down. 11May slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down the violent.
I know that the LORD defends the cause of the oppressed and vindicates the poor. 12I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
Certainly the godly will give thanks to your name; the morally upright will live in your presence. 13Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence.
