Psalm 81
NET Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew International Version
For the music director; according to the gittith style; by Asaph. Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob! 1For the director of music. According to gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument! 2Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre.
Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. 3Sound the ram's horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. 4this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. 5When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say:
It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. 6"I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.
In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (Selah) 7In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah.
I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! 8Hear me, my people, and I will warn you-- if you would only listen to me, Israel!
There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god. 9You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me.
I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!' 10I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. 11"But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.
I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. 12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! 13"If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways,
Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries." 14how quickly I would subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!
(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) 15Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.
"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs." 16But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."
