Proverbs 9
NET Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew International Version
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars. 1Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.
She has prepared her meat, she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. 2She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
She has sent out her female servants; she calls out on the highest places of the city. 3She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city,
"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding. 4"Let all who are simple come to my house!" To those who have no sense she says,
"Come, eat some of my food, and drink some of the wine I have mixed. 5"Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed.
Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding." 6Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight."
Whoever corrects a mocker is asking for insult; whoever reproves a wicked person receives abuse. 7Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.
Do not reprove a mocker or he will hate you; reprove a wise person and he will love you. 8Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you.
Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning. 9Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.
The beginning of wisdom is to fear the LORD, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding. 10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For because of me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. 11For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage, but if you are a mocker, you alone must bear it. 12If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
The woman called Folly is brash, she is naive and does not know anything. 13Folly is an unruly woman; she is simple and knows nothing.
So she sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, 14She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,
calling out to those who are passing by her in the way, who go straight on their way. 15calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way,
"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding. 16"Let all who are simple come to my house!" To those who have no sense she says,
"Stolen waters are sweet, and food obtained in secret is pleasant!" 17"Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!"
But they do not realize that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave. 18But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.
