| 1For the music director; a psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the sky displays his handiwork. | 1The heavens are declaring the glory of God, and their expanse shows the work of his hands. |
| 2Day after day it speaks out; night after night it reveals his greatness. | 2Day after day they pour forth speech, night after night they reveal knowledge. |
| 3There is no actual speech or word, nor is its voice literally heard. | 3There is no speech nor are there words— their voice is not heard— |
| 4Yet its voice echoes throughout the earth; its words carry to the distant horizon. In the sky he has pitched a tent for the sun. | 4yet their message goes out into all the world, and their words to the ends of the earth. He has set up a tent for the sun in the heavens, |
