Psalm 21
NET BibleHolman Christian Standard Bible
For the music director; a psalm of David. O LORD, the king rejoices in the strength you give; he takes great delight in the deliverance you provide. 1For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. LORD, the king finds joy in Your strength. How greatly he rejoices in Your victory!
You grant him his heart's desire; you do not refuse his request. (Selah) 2You have given him his heart's desire and have not denied the request of his lips. Selah
For you bring him rich blessings; you place a golden crown on his head. 3For You meet him with rich blessings; You place a crown of pure gold on his head.
He asked you to sustain his life, and you have granted him long life and an enduring dynasty. 4He asked You for life, and You gave it to him-- length of days forever and ever.
Your deliverance brings him great honor; you give him majestic splendor. 5His glory is great through Your victory; You confer majesty and splendor on him.
For you grant him lasting blessings; you give him great joy by allowing him into your presence. 6You give him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in Your presence.
For the king trusts in the LORD, and because of the sovereign LORD's faithfulness he is not upended. 7For the king relies on the LORD; through the faithful love of the Most High he is not shaken.
You prevail over all your enemies; your power is too great for those who hate you. 8Your hand will capture all your enemies; your right hand will seize those who hate you.
You burn them up like a fiery furnace when you appear; the LORD angrily devours them; the fire consumes them. 9You will make them burn like a fiery furnace when you appear; the LORD will engulf them in His wrath, and fire will devour them.
You destroy their offspring from the earth, their descendants from among the human race. 10You will wipe their descendants from the earth and their offspring from the human race.
Yes, they intend to do you harm; they dream up a scheme, but they do not succeed. 11Though they intend to harm you and devise a wicked plan, they will not prevail.
For you make them retreat when you shoot your arrows at them. 12Instead, you will put them to flight when you aim your bow at their faces.
Rise up, O LORD, in strength! We will sing and praise your power! 13Be exalted, LORD, in Your strength; we will sing and praise Your might.
