NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
Then Bildad the Shuhite answered: 1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
"How long until you make an end of words? You must consider, and then we can talk. 2“How long will you hunt for words? Consider, and then we will speak.
Why should we be regarded as beasts, and considered stupid in your sight? 3Why are we counted as cattle? Why are we stupid in your sight?
You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger, will the earth be abandoned for your sake? Or will a rock be moved from its place? 4You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be forsaken for you, or the rock be removed out of its place?
"Yes, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire does not shine. 5“Indeed, the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire does not shine.
The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished. 6The light is dark in his tent, and his lamp above him is put out.
His vigorous steps are restricted, and his own counsel throws him down. 7His strong steps are shortened, and his own schemes throw him down.
For he has been thrown into a net by his feet and he wanders into a mesh. 8For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on its mesh.
A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare grips him. 9A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare lays hold of him.
A rope is hidden for him on the ground and a trap for him lies on the path. 10A rope is hidden for him in the ground, a trap for him in the path.
Terrors frighten him on all sides and dog his every step. 11Terrors frighten him on every side, and chase him at his heels.
Calamity is hungry for him, and misfortune is ready at his side. 12His strength is famished, and calamity is ready for his stumbling.
It eats away parts of his skin; the most terrible death devours his limbs. 13It consumes the parts of his skin; the firstborn of death consumes his limbs.
He is dragged from the security of his tent, and marched off to the king of terrors. 14He is torn from the tent in which he trusted and is brought to the king of terrors.
Fire resides in his tent; over his residence burning sulfur is scattered. 15In his tent dwells that which is none of his; sulfur is scattered over his habitation.
Below his roots dry up, and his branches wither above. 16His roots dry up beneath, and his branches wither above.
His memory perishes from the earth, he has no name in the land. 17His memory perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the street.
He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world. 18He is thrust from light into darkness, and driven out of the world.
He has neither children nor descendants among his people, no survivor in those places he once stayed. 19He has no posterity or progeny among his people, and no survivor where he used to live.
People of the west are appalled at his fate; people of the east are seized with horror, saying, 20They of the west are appalled at his day, and horror seizes them of the east.
Surely such is the residence of an evil man; and this is the place of one who has not known God.'" 21Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous, such is the place of him who knows not God.”
