1Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming. | 1Hallelujah! It is good to sing praise to our God, and it is fitting to sing glorious praise. |
2The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. | 2The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem; he gathers together the outcasts of Israel. |
3He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. | 3He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their injuries. |
4He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. | 4He keeps track of the number of stars, assigning names to all of them. |
5Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. | 5Our Lord is great, and rich in power; his understanding has no limitation. |
6The LORD supports the afflicted; He brings down the wicked to the ground. | 6The LORD supports the afflicted while he casts the wicked to the ground. |
7Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; Sing praises to our God on the lyre, | 7Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving, and compose music to our God with the lyre. |
8Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who provides rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains. | 8He shields the heavens with clouds, preparing rain for the earth and making grass grow on the hills. |
9He gives to the beast its food, And to the young ravens which cry. | 9He gives wild animals their food, including the young ravens when they cry. |
10He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man. | 10He takes no delight in the strength of a horse, and gains no pleasure in the runner's swiftness. |
11The LORD favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His lovingkindness. | 11But the LORD is pleased with those who fear him, with those who depend on his gracious love. |
12Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! | 12Glorify the LORD, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion! |
13For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your sons within you. | 13For he has strengthened the bars of your gates, blessing your children within you. |
14He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat. | 14He grants peace within your borders, satisfying you with the finest of wheat. |
15He sends forth His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. | 15He sends out his command to the earth, making his word go forth quickly. |
16He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes. | 16He supplies snow like wool, scattering frost like ashes. |
17He casts forth His ice as fragments; Who can stand before His cold? | 17He casts down his ice crystals like bread fragments. Who can endure his freezing cold? |
18He sends forth His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow. | 18He sends out his word and melts them. He makes his wind blow and the water flows. |
19He declares His words to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel. | 19He declares his words to Jacob, his statutes and decrees to Israel. |
20He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His ordinances, they have not known them. Praise the LORD! | 20He has not dealt with any other nation like this; they never knew his decrees. Hallelujah! |
