Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. | 1After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. |
And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. | 2Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. |
And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. | 3His appearance was like lightning, and his robe was as white as snow. |
The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. | 4The guards were so shaken from fear of him that they became like dead men. |
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. | 5But the angel told the women, "Don't be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. |
"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. | 6He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. |
"Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you." | 7Then go quickly and tell His disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead. In fact, He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there.' Listen, I have told you." |
And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. | 8So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell His disciples the news. |
And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. | 9Just then Jesus met them and said, "Good morning!" They came up, took hold of His feet, and worshiped Him. |
Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me." | 10Then Jesus told them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see Me there." |
Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. | 11As they were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. |
And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, | 12After the priests had assembled with the elders and agreed on a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money |
and said, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.' | 13and told them, "Say this, 'His disciples came during the night and stole Him while we were sleeping.' |
"And if this should come to the governor's ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble." | 14If this reaches the governor's ears, we will deal with him and keep you out of trouble." |
And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day. | 15So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been spread among Jewish people to this day. |
But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. | 16The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. |
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. | 17When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted. |
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. | 18Then Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. |
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, | 19Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, |
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." | 20teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." |
