Then Bildad the Shuhite responded,1Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
"How long will you hunt for words? Show understanding and then we can talk.2“How long until you end these speeches? Show some sense, and then we can talk.
"Why are we regarded as beasts, As stupid in your eyes?3Why are we regarded as cattle, as stupid in your sight?
"O you who tear yourself in your anger-- For your sake is the earth to be abandoned, Or the rock to be moved from its place?4You who tear yourself in anger—should the earth be forsaken on your account, or the rocks be moved from their place?
"Indeed, the light of the wicked goes out, And the flame of his fire gives no light.5Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; the flame of his fire does not glow.
"The light in his tent is darkened, And his lamp goes out above him.6The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him goes out.
"His vigorous stride is shortened, And his own scheme brings him down.7His vigorous stride is shortened, and his own schemes trip him up.
"For he is thrown into the net by his own feet, And he steps on the webbing.8For his own feet lead him into a net, and he wanders into its mesh.
"A snare seizes him by the heel, And a trap snaps shut on him.9A trap seizes his heel; a snare grips him.
"A noose for him is hidden in the ground, And a trap for him on the path.10A noose is hidden in the ground, and a trap lies in his path.
"All around terrors frighten him, And harry him at every step.11Terrors frighten him on every side and harass his every step.
"His strength is famished, And calamity is ready at his side.12His strength is depleted, and calamity is ready at his side.
"His skin is devoured by disease, The firstborn of death devours his limbs.13It devours patches of his skin; the firstborn of death devours his limbs.
"He is torn from the security of his tent, And they march him before the king of terrors.14He is torn from the shelter of his tent and is marched off to the king of terrors.
"There dwells in his tent nothing of his; Brimstone is scattered on his habitation.15Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur rains down on his dwelling.
"His roots are dried below, And his branch is cut off above.16The roots beneath him dry up, and the branches above him wither away.
"Memory of him perishes from the earth, And he has no name abroad.17The memory of him perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the land.
"He is driven from light into darkness, And chased from the inhabited world.18He is driven from light into darkness and is chased from the inhabited world.
"He has no offspring or posterity among his people, Nor any survivor where he sojourned.19He has no offspring or posterity among his people, no survivor where he once lived.
"Those in the west are appalled at his fate, And those in the east are seized with horror.20Those in the west are appalled at his fate, while those in the east tremble in horror.
"Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, And this is the place of him who does not know God."21Surely such is the dwelling of the wicked and the place of one who does not know God.”
