Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.2And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.3And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.4But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,5Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.6and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.7Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.9And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.10Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.11Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;12Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee.
And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:13And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali,
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,14so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;15“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.16the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.17From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.18While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.19And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.20Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.21And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.22Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.23And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.24So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.25And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
