| 1These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: | 1Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, |
| 2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. | 2since you gave him authority over all flesh, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him. |
| 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. | 3This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent--Jesus Christ. |
| 4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. | 4I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do. |
| 5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. | 5Now, Father, glorify me in your presence with that glory I had with you before the world existed. |
| 6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. | 6"I have revealed your name to the people you gave me from the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. |
| 7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. | 7Now they know that everything you have given is from you, |
| 8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. | 8because I have given them the words you gave me. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me. |
| 9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. | 9"I pray for them. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me, because they are yours. |
| 10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. | 10Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine, and I am glorified in them. |
| 11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. | 11I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by your name that you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. |
| 12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. | 12While I was with them, I was protecting them by your name that you have given me. I guarded them and not one of them is lost, except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture may be fulfilled. |
| 13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. | 13Now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in them. |
| 14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. | 14I have given them your word. The world hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. |
| 15I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. | 15I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. |
| 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. | 16They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. |
| 17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. | 17Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. |
| 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. | 18As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. |
| 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. | 19I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth. |
| 20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; | 20"I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word. |
| 21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. | 21May they all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us, so that the world may believe you sent me. |
| 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: | 22I have given them the glory you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. |
| 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. | 23I am in them and you are in me, so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved them as you have loved me. |
| 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. | 24"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they will see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world's foundation. |
| 25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. | 25Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you, and they have known that you sent me. |
| 26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. | 26I made your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them and I may be in them." |
