Proverbs 11
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
The LORD hates false scales, but he delights in accurate weights.1The LORD detests the use of dishonest scales, but he delights in accurate weights.
When pride appears, disgrace accompanies it, but humility is present with wisdom.2Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
The integrity of the righteous guides them, but the hypocrisy of the treacherous destroys them.3Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.
Wealth won't help in the time of judgment, but righteousness will deliver from death.4Riches won’t help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death.
The righteousness of the innocent creates a level path, but the wicked fall by their wickedness.5The godly are directed by honesty; the wicked fall beneath their load of sin.
The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the treacherous are trapped by their evil desires.6The godliness of good people rescues them; the ambition of treacherous people traps them.
When a wicked person dies, his hope vanishes; and what he expected from his scheming comes to nothing.7When the wicked die, their hopes die with them, for they rely on their own feeble strength.
The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead.8The godly are rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.
By what he says, the godless person can destroy his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape.9With their words, the godless destroy their friends, but knowledge will rescue the righteous.
The city rejoices when the righteous prosper, and when the wicked perish there is jubilation.10The whole city celebrates when the godly succeed; they shout for joy when the wicked die.
Through the blessing of the righteous a city is built up, but what the wicked say tears it down.11Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper, but the talk of the wicked tears it apart.
Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but the discerning man controls his comments.12It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.
Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence.13A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.
A nation falls through a lack of guidance, but victory comes through the counsel of many. 14Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.
Securing a loan for a stranger will bring suffering, but by refusing to do so, one remains safe.15There’s danger in putting up security for a stranger’s debt; it’s safer not to guarantee another person’s debt.
A gracious woman attains honor, but ruthless men attain wealth.16A gracious woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
A gracious man benefits himself, but the cruel person damages himself.17Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.
Evil people earn deceptive wages, but those who plant righteousness are truly rewarded.18Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last.
Genuine righteousness leads to life, but whoever pursues evil will die.19Godly people find life; evil people find death.
Devious minds are abhorrent to the LORD, but those whose ways are innocent are his delight.20The LORD detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity.
Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free.21Evil people will surely be punished, but the children of the godly will go free.
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.22A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.
The desire of the righteous is to seek good, but the hope of the wicked results in wrath.23The godly can look forward to a reward, while the wicked can expect only judgment.
Those who give freely gain even more; others hold back what they owe, becoming even poorer.24Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.
A generous person will prosper, and anyone who gives water will receive a flood in return.25The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
People will curse whoever withholds grain, but blessing will come to whoever is selling.26People curse those who hoard their grain, but they bless the one who sells in time of need.
The person seeking good will find favor, but anyone who searches for evil—it will find him!27If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!
The person who trusts in his wealth will fall, but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.28Trust in your money and down you go! But the godly flourish like leaves in spring.
Whoever troubles his household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be a servant to the wise.29Those who bring trouble on their families inherit the wind. The fool will be a servant to the wise.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who wins people is wise. 30The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.
If the righteous receive what they are due here on earth, how much more will the wicked and the sinner.31If the righteous are rewarded here on earth, what will happen to wicked sinners?
