ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Now the Spirit says clearly that in the last times some people will abandon the faith by following deceitful spirits, the teachings of demons, 1Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
and the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences have been burned by a hot iron. 2These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.
They will try to stop people from marrying and from eating certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 3They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.
For everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 4Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.
because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.5For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer. A Good Servant of Christ Jesus
If you continue to point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good servant of the Messiah Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the healthy teaching that you have followed closely. 6If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed.
Do not have anything to do with godless myths and fables of old women. Instead, train yourself to be godly. 7Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.
Physical exercise is of limited value, but Godliness is very dear, a pledge of life, both there and here.8“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
This is a trustworthy saying that deserves complete acceptance.9This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.
To this end we work hard and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, that is, of those who believe.10This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
These are the things you must insist on and teach. 11Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them.
Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity. 12Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
Until I arrive, give your full concentration to the public reading of Scripture, to exhorting, and to teaching. 13Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy when the elders laid their hands on you. 14Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.
Think on these things. Devote your life to them so that everyone can see your progress. 15Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.
Pay close attention to your life and your teaching. Persevere in these things, because if you do so, you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.16Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.
