1All of Israel was enumerated by genealogy and recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel as Judah was being taken captive into exile to Babylon due to their disobedience.1Genealogical records were kept for all Israel; they are recorded in the Scroll of the Kings of Israel. Exiles Who Resettled in Jerusalem The people of Judah were carried away to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2The first to settle on their own property in their own towns of Israel were priests, descendants of Levi, and the Temple Servants. 2The first to resettle on their property and in their cities were some Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
3In Jerusalem there lived some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh including3Some from the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim and Manasseh settled in Jerusalem.
4Ammihud's son Uthai, who was the grandson of Omri, who was the great-grandson of Imri, who was fathered by Bani from the descendants of Judah's son Perez. 4The settlers included: Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, who was a descendant of Perez son of Judah.
5From the descendants of Shilon there was Asaiah the firstborn, along with his descendants. 5From the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
6From the descendants of Zerah there was Jeuel, along with 690 of their relatives. 6From the descendants of Zerah: Jeuel. Their relatives numbered 690.
7From the descendants of Benjamin there was Meshullam's son Sallu, who was also the grandson of Hodaviah and great-grandson of Hassenuah, 7From the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah;
8Jeroham's son Ibneiah, Uzzi's son Elah, who was also Michri's grandson, and Shephatiah's son Meshullam, who was the grandson of Reuel and great-grandson of Ibnijah, 8Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah.
9along with 956 of their relatives according to their generations. All of these were leaders of families according to their ancestral households.9Their relatives, listed in their genealogical records, numbered 956. All these men were leaders of their families.
10From the priests there were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, 10From the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin;

12There was Jeroham's son Adaiah, who was fathered by Pashhur, who was fathered by Malchijah, and Adiel's son Maasai, who was fathered by Jahzerah, who was fathered by Meshullam, who was fathered by Meshillemith, who was fathered by Immer, 12Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.
13along with 1,760 of their relatives, who were leaders of their ancestral households, valiant and qualified to serve in the Temple of God.13Their relatives, who were leaders of their families, numbered 1,760. They were capable men who were assigned to carry out the various tasks of service in God's temple.
14From the descendants of Levi there was Hasshub's son Shemaiah, who was the grandson of Azrikam, who was fathered by Hashabiah, from the descendants of Merari; 14From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah a descendant of Merari;
15along with Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mica's son Mattaniah, who was the grandson of Zichri and great-grandson of Asaph, 15Bakbakkar; Heresh; Galal; Mattaniah son of Mika, son of Zikri, son of Asaph;
16and Shemaiah's son Obadiah, who was the grandson of Galal, who was fathered by Jeduthun, and Asa's son Berechiah, who was the grandson of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.16Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived among the settlements of the Netophathites.
17The gatekeepers included Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and other relatives. Shallum was the leader. 17The gatekeepers were: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brothers. Shallum was the leader;
18He used to be stationed in the King's Gate on the east side as one of the gatekeepers of the camp belonging to the descendants of Levi. 18he serves to this day at the King's Gate on the east. These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the descendants of Levi.
19Kore's son Shallum, who was the grandson of Ebiasaph and the great-grandson of Korah, and the descendants of Korah (who were relatives of his ancestral house) were over the service responsibilities and served as guardians of the entrances of the Tent, just as their ancestors had been in charge of the camp of the LORD and guardians of the entrance. 19Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his relatives from his family (the Korahites) were assigned to guard the entrance to the sanctuary. Their ancestors had guarded the entrance to the LORD's dwelling place.
20Eleazar's son Phinehas used to be Commander-in-Chief over them—the LORD was with him. 20Phinehas son of Eleazar had been their leader in earlier times, and the LORD was with him.
21Meshelemiah's son Zechariah was gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 21Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the guard at the entrance to the meeting tent.
22All these, who had been set apart as gatekeepers at the entrances, numbered 212 and had been enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer installed them in their positions of trust, 22All those selected to be gatekeepers at the entrances numbered 212. Their names were recorded in the genealogical records of their settlements. David and Samuel the prophet had appointed them to their positions.
23so they and their descendants were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, that is, the House of the Tent, as guardians. 23They and their descendants were assigned to guard the gates of the LORD's sanctuary (that is, the tabernacle).
24The guardians were stationed on four sides—east, west, north, and south. 24The gatekeepers were posted on all four sides--east, west, north, and south.
25Their relatives who lived in their villages were required to visit every seven days to be with them in turn, 25Their relatives, who lived in their settlements, came from time to time and served with them for seven-day periods.
26because the four senior gatekeepers (who were descendants of Levi) had been placed in charge of the chambers and the treasury of the Temple of God. 26The four head gatekeepers, who were Levites, were assigned to guard the storerooms and treasuries in God's sanctuary.
27They spent the night near the Temple of God, since they had been entrusted to guard it. They were in charge of opening it every morning.27They would spend the night in their posts all around God's sanctuary, for they were assigned to guard it and would open it with the key every morning.
28Some were responsible for the service utensils, and they were required to take an inventory of them when they were brought in and out. 28Some of them were in charge of the articles used by those who served; they counted them when they brought them in and when they brought them out.
29Others were responsible for the furniture and for all of the holy utensils, including the flour, wine, oil, incense, and spices. 29Some of them were in charge of the equipment and articles of the sanctuary, as well as the flour, wine, olive oil, incense, and spices.
30Other descendants of the priests prepared the mixed spices. 30(But some of the priests mixed the spices.)
31Mattithiah, a descendant of Levi and firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of making the offering cakes. 31Mattithiah, a Levite, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of baking the bread for offerings.
32Some of their Kohathite relatives were responsible to prepare the rows of bread for each Sabbath. 32Some of the Kohathites, their relatives, were in charge of preparing the bread that is displayed each Sabbath.
33These singers, leaders of ancestral households of the descendants of Levi, were living in the chambers of the Temple. Freed from other service responsibilities, they were on duty day and night. 33The musicians and Levite family leaders stayed in rooms at the sanctuary and were exempt from other duties, for day and night they had to carry out their assigned tasks.
34These leaders of the descendants of Levi, enrolled according to their genealogies, lived in Jerusalem.34These were the family leaders of the Levites, as listed in their genealogical records. They lived in Jerusalem.
35Jeiel, who fathered Gibeon, lived in the city of Gibeon. His wife was named Maacah. 35Jeiel (the father of Gibeon) lived in Gibeon. His wife was Maacah.
36His firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, 36His firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,

38Mikloth fathered Shimeam. They lived across town from their relatives in Jerusalem. 38Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They also lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.
39Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, and Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal. 39Ner was the father of Kish, and Kish was the father of Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.
40Jonathan fathered Merib-baal, and Merib-baal fathered Micah.40The son of Jonathan: Meribbaal, who was the father of Micah.
41Micah's descendants included Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz. 41The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
42Ahaz fathered Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri fathered Moza, and 42Ahaz was the father of Jarah, and Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri was the father of Moza,
43Moza fathered Binea, and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son. 43and Moza was the father of Binea. His son was Rephaiah, whose son was Eleasah, whose son was Azel.
44Azel had six descendants with these names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan—these were the descendants of Azel.44Azel had six sons: Azrikam his firstborn, followed by Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
