| 1First of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people, | 1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, |

| 8Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry or argumentative. | 8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. |
| 9Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not with elaborate hairstyles or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, | 9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, |
| 10but through good actions. This is proper for women who claim to revere God. | 10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. |
| 11Let a woman learn with a quiet spirit, and submissively. | 11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. |
| 12Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm. | 12But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. |
| 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve, | 13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. |
| 14and it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became disobedient, | 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. |
| 15even though she will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, along with good judgment. | 15But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. |
