Psalm 79
ISV Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionChristian Standard Bible
God, nations have invaded your land to desecrate your holy Temple, to destroy Jerusalem,1God, the nations have invaded your inheritance, desecrated your holy temple, and turned Jerusalem into ruins.
to give the corpses of your servants as food for the birds of the skies and the flesh of your godly ones to the beasts of the earth;2They gave the corpses of your servants to the birds of the sky for food, the flesh of your faithful ones to the beasts of the earth.
to make their blood flow like water around Jerusalem, with no one being buried.3They poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.
We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and a derision to those around us.4We have become an object of reproach to our neighbors, a source of mockery and ridicule to those around us.
How long, LORD, will you be angry? Forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?5How long, LORD? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy keep burning like fire?
Pour out your wrath upon the nations that do not acknowledge you, and over the kingdoms that do not call on your name.6Pour out your wrath on the nations that don't acknowledge you, on the kingdoms that don't call on your name,
For they consumed Jacob, making his dwelling place desolate.7for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his homeland.
Don't charge us for previous iniquity, but let your compassion come quickly to us, for we have been brought very low.8Do not hold past iniquities against us; let your compassion come to us quickly, for we have become very weak.
Help us, God, our deliverer, on account of your glorious name, deliver us and forgive our sins on account of your name.9God of our salvation, help us--for the glory of your name. Rescue us and atone for our sins, for your name's sake.
Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let vengeance for the blood of your servants be meted out before our eyes and among the nations.10Why should the nations ask, "Where is their God?" Before our eyes, let vengeance for the shed blood of your servants be known among the nations.
Let the cries of the prisoners reach you. With the strength of your power, release those condemned to death. 11Let the groans of the prisoners reach you; according to your great power, preserve those condemned to die.
Pay back our neighbors seven times the reproach with which they reproached you, LORD.12Pay back sevenfold to our neighbors the reproach they have hurled at you, Lord.
Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you always, from generation to generation. We will declare your praise.13Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will thank you forever; we will declare your praise to generation after generation.
