Proverbs 29
HCSB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
One who becomes stiff-necked, after many reprimands will be shattered instantly-- beyond recovery. 1Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed--without remedy.
When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan. 2When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.
A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but one who consorts with prostitutes destroys his wealth. 3A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
By justice a king brings stability to a land, but a man who demands "contributions" demolishes it. 4By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down.
A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. 5Those who flatter their neighbors are spreading nets for their feet.
An evil man is caught by sin, but the righteous one sings and rejoices. 6Evildoers are snared by their own sin, but the righteous shout for joy and are glad.
The righteous person knows the rights of the poor, but the wicked one does not understand these concerns. 7The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.
Mockers inflame a city, but the wise turn away anger. 8Mockers stir up a city, but the wise turn away anger.
If a wise man goes to court with a fool, there will be ranting and raving but no resolution. 9If a wise person goes to court with a fool, the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.
Bloodthirsty men hate an honest person, but the upright care about him. 10The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity and seek to kill the upright.
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man holds it in check. 11Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.
If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials will be wicked. 12If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.
The poor and the oppressor have this in common: the LORD gives light to the eyes of both. 13The poor and the oppressor have this in common: The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both.
A king who judges the poor with fairness-- his throne will be established forever. 14If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will be established forever.
A rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a youth left to himself is a disgrace to his mother. 15A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
When the wicked increase, rebellion increases, but the righteous will see their downfall. 16When the wicked thrive, so does sin, but the righteous will see their downfall.
Discipline your son, and it will bring you peace of mind and give you delight. 17Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.
Without revelation people run wild, but one who listens to instruction will be happy. 18Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom's instruction.
A slave cannot be disciplined by words; though he understands, he doesn't respond. 19Servants cannot be corrected by mere words; though they understand, they will not respond.
Do you see a man who speaks too soon? There is more hope for a fool than for him. 20Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them.
A slave pampered from his youth will become arrogant later on. 21A servant pampered from youth will turn out to be insolent.
An angry man stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered man increases rebellion. 22An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.
A person's pride will humble him, but a humble spirit will gain honor. 23Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.
To be a thief's partner is to hate oneself; he hears the curse but will not testify. 24The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies; they are put under oath and dare not testify.
The fear of man is a snare, but the one who trusts in the LORD is protected. 25Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.
Many seek a ruler's favor, but a man receives justice from the LORD. 26Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the LORD that one gets justice.
An unjust man is detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is detestable to the wicked. 27The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.
