| 2Command the Israelites to bring you pure oil from crushed olives for the light, in order to keep the lamp burning continually. | 2"Command the sons of Israel that they bring to you clear oil from beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually. |
| 3Aaron is to tend it continually from evening until morning before the LORD outside the veil of the testimony in the tent of meeting. This is a permanent statute throughout your generations. | 3"Outside the veil of testimony in the tent of meeting, Aaron shall keep it in order from evening to morning before the LORD continually; it shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations. |
| 4He must continually tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand in the LORD's presence." | 4"He shall keep the lamps in order on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD continually. |
| 5Take fine flour and bake it into 12 loaves; each loaf is to be made with four quarts. | 5"Then you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake. |
| 6Arrange them in two rows, six to a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. | 6"You shall set them in two rows, six to a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. |
| 7Place pure frankincense near each row, so that it may serve as a memorial portion for the bread and a fire offering to the LORD. | 7"You shall put pure frankincense on each row that it may be a memorial portion for the bread, even an offering by fire to the LORD. |
| 8The bread is to be set out before the LORD every Sabbath day as a perpetual covenant obligation on the part of the Israelites. | 8"Every sabbath day he shall set it in order before the LORD continually; it is an everlasting covenant for the sons of Israel. |
| 9It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place, for it is the holiest portion for him from the fire offerings to the LORD; this is a permanent rule." | 9"It shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the LORD'S offerings by fire, his portion forever." |
| 10Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father was among the Israelites. A fight broke out in the camp between the Israelite woman's son and an Israelite man. | 10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the sons of Israel; and the Israelite woman's son and a man of Israel struggled with each other in the camp. |
| 11Her son cursed and blasphemed the Name, and they brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith, a daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.) | 11The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) |
| 12They put him in custody until the LORD's decision could be made clear to them. | 12They put him in custody so that the command of the LORD might be made clear to them. |
| 13Then the LORD spoke to Moses: " | 13Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 14Bring the one who has cursed to the outside of the camp and have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then have the whole community stone him. | 14"Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then let all the congregation stone him. |
| 15And tell the Israelites: If anyone curses his God, he will bear the consequences of his sin. | 15"You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin. |
| 16Whoever blasphemes the name of Yahweh is to be put to death; the whole community must stone him. If he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death, whether the foreign resident or the native." | 16'Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death. |
| 17If a man kills anyone, he must be put to death. | 17'If a man takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death. |
| 18Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, life for life. | 18'The one who takes the life of an animal shall make it good, life for life. |
| 19If any man inflicts a permanent injury on his neighbor, whatever he has done is to be done to him: | 19'If a man injures his neighbor, just as he has done, so it shall be done to him: |
| 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Whatever injury he inflicted on the person, the same is to be inflicted on him. | 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him. |
| 21Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, but whoever kills a person is to be put to death. | 21'Thus the one who kills an animal shall make it good, but the one who kills a man shall be put to death. |
| 22You are to have the same law for the foreign resident and the native, because I am Yahweh your God." | 22'There shall be one standard for you; it shall be for the stranger as well as the native, for I am the LORD your God.'" |
| 23After Moses spoke to the Israelites, they brought the one who had cursed to the outside of the camp and stoned him. So the Israelites did as the LORD had commanded Moses. | 23Then Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and they brought the one who had cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. Thus the sons of Israel did, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. |
