Job 32
ESV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1Then these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Then Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, burned with anger. He burned with anger at Job because he justified himself rather than God.2But the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram burned; against Job his anger burned because he justified himself before God.
He burned with anger also at Job’s three friends because they had found no answer, although they had declared Job to be in the wrong.3And his anger burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he.4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were years older than he.
And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, he burned with anger.5And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men his anger burned.
And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said: “I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you.6So Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite spoke out and said, "I am young in years and you are old; Therefore I was shy and afraid to tell you what I think.
I said, ‘Let days speak, and many years teach wisdom.’7"I thought age should speak, And increased years should teach wisdom.
But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand.8"But it is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
It is not the old who are wise, nor the aged who understand what is right.9"The abundant in years may not be wise, Nor may elders understand justice.
Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me; let me also declare my opinion.’10"So I say, 'Listen to me, I too will tell what I think.'
“Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your wise sayings, while you searched out what to say.11"Behold, I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, While you pondered what to say.
I gave you my attention, and, behold, there was none among you who refuted Job or who answered his words.12"I even paid close attention to you; Indeed, there was no one who refuted Job, Not one of you who answered his words.
Beware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not a man.’13"Do not say, 'We have found wisdom; God will rout him, not man.'
He has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your speeches.14"For he has not arranged his words against me, Nor will I reply to him with your arguments.
“They are dismayed; they answer no more; they have not a word to say.15"They are dismayed, they no longer answer; Words have failed them.
And shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand there, and answer no more?16"Shall I wait, because they do not speak, Because they stop and no longer answer?
I also will answer with my share; I also will declare my opinion.17"I too will answer my share, I also will tell my opinion.
For I am full of words; the spirit within me constrains me.18"For I am full of words; The spirit within me constrains me.
Behold, my belly is like wine that has no vent; like new wineskins ready to burst.19"Behold, my belly is like unvented wine, Like new wineskins it is about to burst.
I must speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.20"Let me speak that I may get relief; Let me open my lips and answer.
I will not show partiality to any man or use flattery toward any person.21"Let me now be partial to no one, Nor flatter any man.
For I do not know how to flatter, else my Maker would soon take me away.22"For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.
