English Standard Version | King James Bible |
O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, | 1Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: |
lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. | 2Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. |
O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, | 3O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; |
if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, | 4If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:) |
let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah | 5Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah. |
Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. | 6Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded. |
Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. | 7So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high. |
The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. | 8The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me. |
Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! | 9Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. |
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. | 10My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. |
God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. | 11God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. |
If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; | 12If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. |
he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. | 13He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors. |
Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. | 14Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. |
He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. | 15He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. |
His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. | 16His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate. |
I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. | 17I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high. |
