English Standard Version | Berean Study Bible |
O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, | 1A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite. O LORD my God, I take refuge in You; save me and deliver me from all my pursuers, |
lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. | 2or they will shred my soul like a lion and tear me to pieces with no one to rescue me. |
O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, | 3O LORD my God, if I have done this, if injustice is on my hands, |
if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, | 4if I have rewarded my ally with evil, if I have plundered my foe without cause, |
let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah | 5then may my enemy pursue me and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah |
Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. | 6Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; rise up against the fury of my enemies. Awake, my God, and ordain judgment. |
Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. | 7Let the assembled peoples gather around You; take Your seat over them on high. |
The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. | 8The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and integrity. |
Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! | 9Put an end to the evil of the wicked, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds. |
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. | 10My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. |
God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. | 11God is a righteous judge and a God who feels indignation each day. |
If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; | 12If one does not repent, God will sharpen His sword; He has bent and strung His bow. |
he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. | 13He has prepared His deadly weapons; He ordains His arrows with fire. |
Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. | 14Behold, the wicked man travails with evil; he conceives trouble and births falsehood. |
He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. | 15He has dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has fallen into a pit of his own making. |
His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. | 16His trouble recoils on himself, and his violence falls on his own head. |
I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. | 17I will thank the LORD for His righteousness and sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. |
