Psalm 10
CSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide in times of trouble?1O LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?
In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue their victims; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.2The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others.
For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the LORD.3For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the LORD.
In all his scheming, the wicked person arrogantly thinks, "There's no accountability, since there's no God."4The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.
His ways are always secure; your lofty judgments have no effect on him; he scoffs at all his adversaries.5Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies.
He says to himself, "I will never be moved--from generation to generation without calamity."6They think, “Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!”
Cursing, deceit, and violence fill his mouth; trouble and malice are under his tongue.7Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.
He waits in ambush near settlements; he kills the innocent in secret places. His eyes are on the lookout for the helpless;8They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people. They are always searching for helpless victims.
he lurks in secret like a lion in a thicket. He lurks in order to seize a victim; he seizes a victim and drags him in his net.9Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets.
So he is oppressed and beaten down; helpless people fall because of the wicked one's strength.10Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.
He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he hides his face and will never see."11The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”
Rise up, LORD God! Lift up your hand. Do not forget the oppressed.12Arise, O LORD! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!
Why has the wicked person despised God? He says to himself, "You will not demand an account."13Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.”
But you yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into your hands. The helpless one entrusts himself to you; you are a helper of the fatherless.14But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.
Break the arm of the wicked, evil person, until you look for his wickedness, but it can't be found.15Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed.
The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.16The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.
LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully,17LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
doing justice for the fatherless and the oppressed so that mere humans from the earth may terrify them no more.18You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.
