Christian Standard Bible | New International Version |
The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--whom should I dread? | 1Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid? |
When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell. | 2When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. |
Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be confident. | 3Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. |
I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking him in his temple. | 4One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. |
For he will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. | 5For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. |
Then my head will be high above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the LORD. | 6Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. |
LORD, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me. | 7Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. |
My heart says this about you: "Seek his face." LORD, I will seek your face. | 8My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. |
Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation. | 9Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. |
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD cares for me. | 10Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. |
Because of my adversaries, show me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path. | 11Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. |
Do not give me over to the will of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing violence. | 12Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. |
I am certain that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living. | 13I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. |
Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the LORD. | 14Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. |
