LORD my God, I seek refuge in you; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me | 1Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: |
or they will tear me like a lion, ripping me apart with no one to rescue me. | 2Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. |
LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice on my hands, | 3O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; |
if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause, | 4If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:) |
may an enemy pursue and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah | 5Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah. |
Rise up, LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my adversaries; awake for me; you have ordained a judgment. | 6Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded. |
Let the assembly of peoples gather around you; take your seat on high over it. | 7So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high. |
The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity. | 8The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me. |
Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The one who examines the thoughts and emotions is a righteous God. | 9Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. |
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. | 10My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. |
God is a righteous judge and a God who shows his wrath every day. | 11God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. |
If anyone does not repent, he will sharpen his sword; he has strung his bow and made it ready. | 12If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. |
He has prepared his deadly weapons; he tips his arrows with fire. | 13He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors. |
See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil, conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit. | 14Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. |
He dug a pit and hollowed it out but fell into the hole he had made. | 15He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. |
His trouble comes back on his own head; his own violence comes down on top of his head. | 16His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate. |
I will thank the LORD for his righteousness; I will sing about the name of the LORD Most High. | 17I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high. |
