Christian Standard Bible | English Standard Version |
LORD my God, I seek refuge in you; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me | 1O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, |
or they will tear me like a lion, ripping me apart with no one to rescue me. | 2lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. |
LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice on my hands, | 3O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, |
if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause, | 4if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, |
may an enemy pursue and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah | 5let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah |
Rise up, LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my adversaries; awake for me; you have ordained a judgment. | 6Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. |
Let the assembly of peoples gather around you; take your seat on high over it. | 7Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. |
The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity. | 8The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. |
Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The one who examines the thoughts and emotions is a righteous God. | 9Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! |
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. | 10My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. |
God is a righteous judge and a God who shows his wrath every day. | 11God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. |
If anyone does not repent, he will sharpen his sword; he has strung his bow and made it ready. | 12If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; |
He has prepared his deadly weapons; he tips his arrows with fire. | 13he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. |
See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil, conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit. | 14Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. |
He dug a pit and hollowed it out but fell into the hole he had made. | 15He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. |
His trouble comes back on his own head; his own violence comes down on top of his head. | 16His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. |
I will thank the LORD for his righteousness; I will sing about the name of the LORD Most High. | 17I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. |
