In addition, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. To write to you again about this is no trouble for me and is a safeguard for you. | 1Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you. |
Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh. | 2Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. |
For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh-- | 3For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— |
although I have reasons for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more: | 4though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: |
circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; regarding the law, a Pharisee; | 5circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; |
regarding zeal, persecuting the church; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, blameless. | 6as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. |
But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ. | 7But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. |
More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ | 8Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ |
and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ--the righteousness from God based on faith. | 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— |
My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death, | 10that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, |
assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead. | 11that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. |
Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. | 12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. |
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, | 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, |
I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus. | 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. |
Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you. | 15Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. |
In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained. | 16Only let us hold true to what we have attained. |
Join in imitating me, brothers and sisters, and pay careful attention to those who live according to the example you have in us. | 17Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. |
For I have often told you, and now say again with tears, that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. | 18For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. |
Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame. They are focused on earthly things, | 19Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. |
but our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly wait for a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. | 20But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, |
He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of his glorious body, by the power that enables him to subject everything to himself. | 21who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. |
