Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
“How long until you end these speeches? Show some sense, and then we can talk.2"How long until you make an end of words? You must consider, and then we can talk.
Why are we regarded as cattle, as stupid in your sight?3Why should we be regarded as beasts, and considered stupid in your sight?
You who tear yourself in anger—should the earth be forsaken on your account, or the rocks be moved from their place?4You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger, will the earth be abandoned for your sake? Or will a rock be moved from its place?
Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; the flame of his fire does not glow.5"Yes, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire does not shine.
The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him goes out.6The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished.
His vigorous stride is shortened, and his own schemes trip him up.7His vigorous steps are restricted, and his own counsel throws him down.
For his own feet lead him into a net, and he wanders into its mesh.8For he has been thrown into a net by his feet and he wanders into a mesh.
A trap seizes his heel; a snare grips him.9A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare grips him.
A noose is hidden in the ground, and a trap lies in his path.10A rope is hidden for him on the ground and a trap for him lies on the path.
Terrors frighten him on every side and harass his every step.11Terrors frighten him on all sides and dog his every step.
His strength is depleted, and calamity is ready at his side.12Calamity is hungry for him, and misfortune is ready at his side.
It devours patches of his skin; the firstborn of death devours his limbs.13It eats away parts of his skin; the most terrible death devours his limbs.
He is torn from the shelter of his tent and is marched off to the king of terrors.14He is dragged from the security of his tent, and marched off to the king of terrors.
Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur rains down on his dwelling.15Fire resides in his tent; over his residence burning sulfur is scattered.
The roots beneath him dry up, and the branches above him wither away.16Below his roots dry up, and his branches wither above.
The memory of him perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the land.17His memory perishes from the earth, he has no name in the land.
He is driven from light into darkness and is chased from the inhabited world.18He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world.
He has no offspring or posterity among his people, no survivor where he once lived.19He has neither children nor descendants among his people, no survivor in those places he once stayed.
Those in the west are appalled at his fate, while those in the east tremble in horror.20People of the west are appalled at his fate; people of the east are seized with horror, saying,
Surely such is the dwelling of the wicked and the place of one who does not know God.”21Surely such is the residence of an evil man; and this is the place of one who has not known God.'"
