Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus:1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will,5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One.6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.8Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
And He has made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ9Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
as a plan for the fullness of time, to bring all things in heaven and on earth together in Christ.10That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will,11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory.12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth—the gospel of your salvation—you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory.14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers,16Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him.17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints,18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength,19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms,20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church,22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
