The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king's table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king's service.5The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king.5The king appointed for them a daily ration from the king's choice food and from the wine which he drank, and appointed that they should be educated three years, at the end of which they were to enter the king's personal service.5And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.5The king assigned them daily provisions from the royal food and from the wine that he drank. They were to be trained for three years, and at the end of that time they were to serve in the king's court.
Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.6Among these were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah of the tribe of Judah.6Now among them from the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.6Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:6Among them, from the descendants of Judah, were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.7And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.7Then the commander of the officials assigned new names to them; and to Daniel he assigned the name Belteshazzar, to Hananiah Shadrach, to Mishael Meshach and to Azariah Abed-nego.7Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.7The chief official gave them other names: he gave the name Belteshazzar to Daniel, Shadrach to Hananiah, Meshach to Mishael, and Abednego to Azariah.

Daniel's Faithfulness

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.8But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.8But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.8But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.8Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king's food or with the wine he drank. So he asked permission from the chief official not to defile himself.
Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel,9And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs,9Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials,9Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.9God had granted Daniel favor and compassion from the chief official,
but the official told Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you."10and the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who assigned your food and your drink; for why should he see that you were in worse condition than the youths who are of your own age? So you would endanger my head with the king.”10and the commander of the officials said to Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink; for why should he see your faces looking more haggard than the youths who are your own age? Then you would make me forfeit my head to the king."10And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.10yet he said to Daniel, "My lord the king assigned your food and drink. I'm afraid of what would happen if he saw your faces looking thinner than those of the other young men your age. You would endanger my life with the king."
Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,11Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,11But Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,11Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,11So Daniel said to the guard whom the chief official had assigned to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, "

"Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.12“Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink.12"Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink.12Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.12Please test your servants for 10 days. Let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see."13Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king’s food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”13"Then let our appearance be observed in your presence and the appearance of the youths who are eating the king's choice food; and deal with your servants according to what you see."13Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.13Then examine our appearance and the appearance of the young men who are eating the king's food, and deal with your servants based on what you see."
So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.14So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.14So he listened to them in this matter and tested them for ten days.14So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.14He agreed with them about this and tested them for 10 days.
At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.15At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king’s food.15At the end of ten days their appearance seemed better and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king's choice food.15And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.15At the end of 10 days they looked better and healthier than all the young men who were eating the king's food.
So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.16So the steward took away their food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.16So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.16Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.16So the guard continued to remove their food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables.

Daniel's Wisdom

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.17As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.17As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.17As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.17God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. Daniel also understood visions and dreams of every kind.
At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.18At the end of the time, when the king had commanded that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.18Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.18Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.18At the end of the time that the king had said to present them, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.
The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's service.19And the king spoke with them, and among all of them none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood before the king.19The king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's personal service.19And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.19The king interviewed them, and among all of them, no one was found equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. So they began to serve in the king's court.
In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.20And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom.20As for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm.20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.20In every matter of wisdom and understanding that the king consulted them about, he found them 10 times better than all the diviner-priests and mediums in his entire kingdom.
And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.21And Daniel was there until the first year of King Cyrus.21And Daniel continued until the first year of Cyrus the king.21And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.21Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.
