1And Elijah, the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before Whom I stand, there shall not be either dew or rain in the next few years, until I give word”.

2And this word of the LORD came to Elijah, 3“Go east from here, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith (Kerith), east of the Jordan. 4And you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to bring food to you there.” 5So he did according to the word of the LORD; going and dwelling by the brook Cherith, east of the Jordan. 6And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and again in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

7And after a while the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. 8And this word of the LORD came to him, 9“Go to Zarephath, near the city of Sidon, and stay there; I have directed a widow woman there to supply you with food.” 10So he went to Zarephath. And when he arrived at the gate of the city, the widow woman was there gathering sticks. And he asked her, “Would you fetch me a little water in a pot, that I may drink”. 11And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, “And would you bring me a piece of bread”. 12And she said, “As surely as the LORD, your God, lives, I have no bread, only a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a jug; and I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die”. 13And Elijah said to her, “Fear not; go and do as you said. But make me of it a little loaf first, and bring it to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son. 14For this is what the LORD God of Israel says, “The barrel of meal shall not be used up, nor shall the jug of oil run empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.” 15And she went and did as Elijah said; and she, and he, and her son, ate from it for many days. 16And the barrel of meal was not depleted, nor did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Elijah.

17And after some time, the son of the woman became ill; and his sickness was so severe, so that there was no breath left in him. 18And she said to Elijah, “What have you against me, O you man of God? Have you come to me to remind me of my sin, and to slay my son?” 19And Elijah said to her, “Give me your son”. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he had been staying, and laid him on his own bed. 20And he cried to the LORD, and said, “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy upon the widow with whom I am staying, by slaying her son?” 21And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to the LORD, saying, “O LORD, my God, I pray You, let this child's soul return to into him again”. 22And the LORD heard the cry of Elijah; and the soul of the child returned into him again, and he revived. 23And Elijah brought the child down out of the loft into the house, and handed him to his mother; and Elijah said, “See, your son is alive”. 24And the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth”.
