Isaiah 4

A Remnant in Zion

1  וְהֶחֱזִיקוּ֩ (And will take hold) שֶׁ֨בַע (seven) נָשִׁ֜ים (women) בְּאִ֣ישׁ (of man) אֶחָ֗ד (one)

בַּיּ֤וֹם (in the day) הַהוּא֙ (that), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying),

לַחְמֵ֣נוּ (Our own bread) נֹאכֵ֔ל (we will eat)

וְשִׂמְלָתֵ֖נוּ (and our own garment) נִלְבָּ֑שׁ (we will wear);

רַ֗ק (only) יִקָּרֵ֤א (let be called) שִׁמְךָ֙ (your name) עָלֵ֔ינוּ (over us),

אֱסֹ֖ף (remove) חֶרְפָּתֵֽנוּ׃ס (our reproach).

2  בַּיּ֣וֹם (In the day) הַה֗וּא (that) יִֽהְיֶה֙ (will be) צֶ֣מַח (the Branch) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH)

לִצְבִ֖י (for beauty) וּלְכָב֑וֹד (and for honor),

וּפְרִ֤י (and the fruit) הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (of the earth)

לְגָא֣וֹן (for pride) וּלְתִפְאֶ֔רֶת (and for glory) לִפְלֵיטַ֖ת (to the escaped) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

3  וְהָיָ֣ה׀ (And it will be that), הַנִּשְׁאָ֣ר (that the remainder) בְּצִיּ֗וֹן (in Zion),

וְהַנּוֹתָר֙ (and the leftover) בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (in Jerusalem),

קָד֖וֹשׁ (holy), יֵאָ֣מֶר (will be called) ל֑וֹ (to him)—

כָּל־ (everyone) הַכָּת֥וּב (who is written) לַחַיִּ֖ים (for life) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (in Jerusalem).

4  אִ֣ם׀ (When) רָחַ֣ץ (has washed away) אֲדֹנָ֗י (the Lord) אֵ֚ת (-)

צֹאַ֣ת (the filth) בְּנוֹת־ (of the daughters) צִיּ֔וֹן (of Zion),

וְאֶת־ (and) דְּמֵ֥י (the blood) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (of Jerusalem) יָדִ֣יחַ (He has cleansed) מִקִּרְבָּ֑הּ (from within her)

בְּר֥וּחַ (by the spirit) מִשְׁפָּ֖ט (of judgment) וּבְר֥וּחַ (and by the spirit) בָּעֵֽר׃ (of burning),

5  וּבָרָ֣א (and will create) יְהוָ֡ה (YHWH) עַל֩ (over) כָּל־ (all) מְכ֨וֹן (the foundation) הַר־ (of Mount) צִיּ֜וֹן (Zion)

וְעַל־ (and over) מִקְרָאֶ֗הָ (her assemblies)

עָנָ֤ן׀ (a cloud) יוֹמָם֙ (by day) וְעָשָׁ֔ן (and smoke),

וְנֹ֛גַהּ (and the shining) אֵ֥שׁ (of a fire) לֶהָבָ֖ה (flaming) לָ֑יְלָה (by night).

כִּ֥י (For) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) כָּב֖וֹד (of the glory)

חֻפָּֽה׃ (will be a canopy).

6  וְסֻכָּ֛ה (And a covered shelter) תִּהְיֶ֥ה (there will be) לְצֵל־ (for shade)

יוֹמָ֖ם (by day) מֵחֹ֑רֶב (from the heat),

וּלְמַחְסֶה֙ (and for a place of refuge) וּלְמִסְתּ֔וֹר (and for a hiding place)

מִזֶּ֖רֶם (from the storm) וּמִמָּטָֽר׃פ (and from the rain).
